This scholarship offers university graduates the opportunity to conduct research in the humanities and social and natural sciences at Japanese universities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • U.S. Citizen;
  • Under 35 years of age as of April 1, 2008;
  • University or college graduate;
  • Study area must be in the same field as applicant has studied or related one;
  • Willingness to learn the Japanese language and receive instruction in Japanese;
  • Good Health;
  • Able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2008 or between the 1st and 7th of October 2008
  • Meet additional qualifications as outlined in the scholarship guidelines.

TERM OF SCHOLARSHIP
For non-degree students: Two years from April 2008 to March 2010 or One year and six months from October 2008 to March 2010. Please refer to the scholarship guidelines for the master’s and doctoral degree students’ term of scholarship.

BENEFITS

  • Stipend of 173,000 yen per month (subject to change);
  • Airfare;
  • Arrival allowance of 25,000 yen (subject to change)
  • Exemption from university fees including entrance examination, matriculation and tuition

DEADLINE

  • Applications must be completed and returned to this office by May 25, 2007.

INTERVIEW AND TESTING

  • An interview and Japanese and English language assessment tests will be given in June, 2007 at this office in New Orleans.
