Virgina Tech Scholarship


The Department of Management at Virginia Tech is seeking applicants to fill two tenure track faculty positions in strategic management at ranks to be determined depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Management or a related field with a specialization in strategic management or have appropriate preparation that qualifies one to teach strategic management) at time of appointment (August 2008), program of scholarly research consistent with the rank applied for, and instructional capabilities at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels. The preferred candidates for these two positions would also have a strong secondary teaching and research interest in technology and innovation management, entrepreneurship, international management, business ethics/social issues,leadership, or a related management field. Especially well qualified candidates may be eligible for consideration for an endowed Pamplin Professorship.

The Department of Management at Virginia Tech has a long history and commitment to the field of strategic management and has been especially strong in the area of doctoral education.

The Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech on-campus enrollment is about 3,600 undergraduates and 270 full-time graduate students. Pamplin’s undergraduate program is ranked in the nation’s 50 best business schools by U.S. News & World Report. Pamplin ranks 40th
overall (which puts it in the top 10 percent of the approximately 458 U.S. undergraduate programs accredited by the AASCB and 24th among the public institutions. Pamplin’s MBA program has consistently ranked in the Financial Times rankings of the world’s top 100 graduate business schools. Pamplin is also moving aggressively into new MBA initiatives including an executive MBA program (located on its Falls Church campus in close proximity to Washington D.C.) as well as professional MBA (co-located in Richmond and Roanoke VA). Current management faculty in the “macro-area” include Michael K. Badawy, Devi R. Gnyawali, Donald E. Hatfield, James R. Lang, Linda F. Tegarden and Richard E. Wokutch.

Blacksburg is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, making its beauty and temperate climate attractive to many. Blacksburg also has high quality primary and secondary schools (K-12) as well as a relatively low cost of living. The Appalachian Trail runs through this area and
there are numerous hiking, camping, mountain biking, and other outdoor recreational opportunities available.
