Newton Fellowship Program


Sponsored by MfA (Math for America), the Newton Fellowship focuses on increasing the number of adequately qualified high school math teachers. It is currently for those interesting in teaching in New York City. Fellows will spend a year on full tuition scholarship in a master’s level teacher program at Columbia University or New York University. The remaining four years will be spent as a teacher in NYC with numerous career-building opportunities.
Qualifications: Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. They must hold a bachelor’s degree with substantial coursework in mathematics. Students in an education program or with a teacher certificate are not eligible.
Amount of Award: $90,000 stipend over five years in addition to mentoring opportunities, job placement and regular teacher’s salary.

The application includes: online application form, personal statement, resume, transcripts, three letters of recommendation, Math Exam, and an interview for finalists.
