National Security Education Program/National Flagship Language Initiative Fellowship
The National Flagship Language Initiative (NFLI) was developed with the help of the National Security Education Program (NSEP) to address the need for students from all disciplines to acquire “professional working proficiency” in languages critical to national security. Pilot programs have been created at several U.S. institutions for advanced language training in Arabic, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian.
Qualifications: Applicants must be U.S. citizens, and possess a minimum current knowledge of an NFLI language, excellent English skills, and a strong commitment to seek long-term employment with the U.S. federal government. Students awarded the fellowship will incur a U.S. federal service requirement.
Amount of Award: Full financial support.
Length of Award: 1-2 years.

Application Process: Applicants for NSEP/NFLI Fellowship support MUST obtain a separate admissions application for the Flagship Language Program of interest from the corresponding Flagship Institution. Deadlines for the Flagship Institution admissions applications are listed on the website.
