NYWEA Major Scholarship
The New York Water Environment Association will be offering a 4-year scholarship worth a total of $10,000. The Scholarship will be paid out as follows:
- Year 1: $1000.
- Year 2: $2000.
- Year 3: $3000.
- Year 4: $4000.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicant must be and remain a New York State resident.
- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who will be enrolled at a College or University by September 2008.
- Applicant must be enrolling in and graduate from a BS or BE full-time program with a focus on environmental issues.Such programs could include but are not limited to:
- Environmental Engineering
- Civil Engineering with an environmental minor
- Hydrogeology with an environmental emphasis
- Biology or Microbiology, with an environmental emphasis
- To receive the annual payments, applicant must maintain the following GPAs for their four-year course of study:
- 2.5 (out of 4.0) for year 1
- 2.7 (out of 4.0) for years 1 through 2
- 3.0 (out of 4.0) for years 1 through 3
Application Instructions
- Complete both sides and sign application. Must be typed or printed neatly. All information must be supplied or application will be deemed incomplete and not eligible for the scholarship. Attached to the completed application:
- Requested essays
- Official school transcript (copies not accepted)
- A minimum of two letters of recommendation, one must be from a teacher; the others must be from someone not related to the applicant.
Annual Scholarship Payment Requirement
- Completed applications must be postmarked no later than January 23, 2008.
- Payment will be made during the fall of each year directly to the applicant, after receipt of the following documentation:
- Each and every year: Receipt from the bursar’s office that the student is registered for the upcoming year fall semester.
- Years 2, 3 and 4: Receipt of an official school transcript for the previous years demonstrating that the student is meeting academic requirements required to receive the next scholarship payment.
- Years 2, 3 and 4: Receipt of the transcript above plus a description of courses registered for the upcoming semester (term) to demonstrate that the student is pursuing a course of study with an environmental emphasis
If the student fails to meet the eligibility requirements required by the scholarship, the remaining portion of the scholarship will not be awarded.
