NSF Alliances for Broadening Participation in STEM (ABP)
The Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation and the Alliancesfor Graduate Education and the Professoriate seek to increase the number of students completing degree programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), especially students from groups underrepresented in STEM. Support begins at the baccalaureate level with the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP). For, eligible students, financial support is continued for 2 years of graduate study via the Bridge to the Doctorate (BD). The Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) further the graduate education of minority students through the doctorate level, preparing them for careers as STEM faculty and research professionals. NSF expects to award 3-5 LSAMP Cooperative Agreements of up to $1 million/year over 5 years; 14-17 BD supplements of up to $1million each for 24 months; and 1-2 AGEP Cooperative Agreements of up to $1million/year over 5 years.
For AGEP proposals, the Provost or Graduate Dean of the lead institutionshould serve as Principal Investigator; for LSAMP, the President or Provost should serve as PI. All alliances are eligible for support of up to $100,000 annually (1- and 2-year awards) for educational research projects on baccalaureate attainment in STEM by African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and Native Pacific Islanders.
DEADLINE: June 25 for required letters of intent for AGEP only; for full
proposals, August 23 for AGEP; October 12, 2007 for LSAMP and
educational research projects
