AmericanScholarship - Update on Scholarships in America

The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Minneapolis Scholarship awards were established to provide scholarships to eligible candidates pursuing a career in professional ministry or professional lay ministry. The scholarship program is made possible through a permanently endowed, charitable fund at the Lutheran Community Foundation, established by the former congregation of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Minneapolis.

The Lutheran Community Foundation is a faith-based public charity that exists to provide a connection between donors and the community. Gifts from the Lutheran and non-Lutheran donors provide grants nationwide, representing a shared vision to achieve change throughout our community. The mission of the Foundation is to serve our donors with integrity, as together we change lives and spread joy by sharing our blessings with the world.

Candidates for the scholarship should meet the following criteria:

• Be a member of congregations within the Minnesota South District of the LCMS
• Be enrolled full-time in their third or fourth year of study at an undergraduate college/university or seminary of the LCMS, or enrolled in a post-baccalaureate program at an LCMS college/university or seminary, and pursuing a career in professional ministry or professional lay ministry.
• Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading system. A copy of an official college transcript must be submitted with application.
• Submit an essay that discusses opportunities and challenges that face inner-city congregations and their communities, including applicant’s recommendations for how these opportunities and challenges could be addressed. Essay length should be 1000-2000 words.
• Submit two letters of recommendation – one authored by the applicant’s pastor and one authored by a faculty member.

Applicants and past recipients may reapply for these scholarships on an annual basis.
