Attorney-CPA Foundation 2006-2007 Essay Contest


The Attorney-CPA Foundation invites you to submit an essay in the undergraduate or graduate/professional division of the 2007 essay contest. The contest has two divisions: an undergraduate division for candidates for a bachelor’s degree, and a graduate/professional division for candidates for a graduate or professional degree. Each division has a separate topic, each division will be judged separately, and each division offers a Grand Prize of $2,500 plus an expense-paid trip to receive the prize at a meeting of the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants (AAA-CPA). Other prize winners will receive a total of $3,000 in each division.

GRADUATE DIVISION
If you are a candidate for a graduate or professional degree, your topic is:
Discuss the restrictions and prohibitions which the professional legal and accounting ethical standard setters place on the simultaneous multi-disciplinary practice of law and accounting by an attorney - CPA holding active licenses issued by both the State Bar and Accountancy Board in your jurisdiction.

The approximate length of your essay is 20 pages (including footnoted or endnotes), typed, double-spaced.

EACH DIVISION

Each division will be judged separately, and each will have its own winners. In each division:

Prizes:

  • Grand Prize $2,500
  • Runner up $1,500
  • Third & Fourth $500
  • 4 Regional Prizes, each $250

DUE DATE: Essays must be received by June 4, 2007.

Undergraduate Division

  • No prior undergraduate or higher level degree
  • Currently enrolled with an accounting major at a college/university
  • Title of Essay: Compare and contrast the attributes of LLCs, LLPs, Limited Partnerships, C Corporations, S Corporations, and Business Trusts with respect to asset protection for the owner - both with respect to creditors of the entity and creditors of the owner - under the laws of your state
  • Length: Aproximately 15 pages (including footnotes/endnotes), typed, double spaced

Graduate Division

  • Currently enrolled graduate/proffessional student in a post-bachelor’s degree program including M.B.A., Ph.D., or J.D.
  • Title of Essay: Discuss the restrictions and prohibitions which the proffessional legal and accounting ethical standard setters place on the simultaneous multi-disciplinary practice of law and accounting by an attorney - CPA holding active licenses issued by both the state Bar Association and Accountancy Board in their jurisdiction.
  • Length: Aproximately 20 pages (including footnotes/endnotes), typed, double spaced
